Dream catchers are one of the most fascinating traditions of Native Americans. They believe that night are is filled with both the good and bad dreams. The traditional dream catcher was intended to protect the sleeping individual from negative dreams, while letting positive dreams through. When a dream catcher is hung, the good dreams would be able to flow through the loops and down on the feathers to the person sleeping. The negative dreams would get caught up in the web, and expire when the first rays of the sun struck them. This has been part of the traditions of the Native Americans for years and has also been adapted by the whole world.

 

How the Dream Catcher is made:

Using a hoop of willow, and decorating it with findings, bits and pieces of everyday life, (feathers, arrow heads, beads, etc) the dream catcher can be easily made on your own.

Dreamcatchers originated with the Ojibwe people, who wove these magical webs from willow hoops and sinew. The hoop represents the travel of giizis, the sun, through the sky.
